Location
You may be required to work at any site across the borough of Southwark as service needs demand.

Hours
10 hours per week during term time, typically 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon (usually between 07:45–09:30 and 14:45–16:30). Job share considered where practical. Monday to Friday during term time.

Salary
£7,275 per annum, pro-rata for 10 hours/week over 45.06 weeks based on a £30,225 full-time equivalent (36-hour week). Paid in twelve equal monthly instalments.

About the Role
You will be a visible, friendly presence outside primary schools, helping children, parents, carers, and other pedestrians cross safely at authorised locations during busy drop-off and pick-up times, whatever the weather. You will follow RoSPA and Southwark Council procedures to stop traffic safely, give clear instructions, and monitor site conditions, reporting any incidents or defective street furniture promptly. You will use the provided personal protective equipment correctly, conduct dynamic risk assessments, and work closely with the School and the School Crossing Patrol Manager to keep everyone safe. Full training, including safeguarding and conflict management, is provided. This is a permanent, term-time only role with holiday to be taken outside term time. The role requires operating in line with Southwark Council and RoSPA guidelines and procedures and involves standing outdoors for the duration of the shift while carrying the crossing sign.

Requirements

Experience
Experience dealing with the public is helpful but not essential as full training and uniform are provided.

About you
Calm and reliable with a genuine desire to help others. Able to communicate clearly with both children and adults. Able to work independently, stay patient under pressure, and operate outdoors in all weather conditions while standing for the duration of the shift and carrying the crossing sign. A strong focus on safeguarding children and vulnerable people is essential.

Qualifications
No formal qualifications required. This is a safeguarding role requiring an Enhanced DBS check and five years of references. Full training including safeguarding and conflict management will be provided.
