About the Role
As the UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom plays a vital role in keeping the UK connected and shaping the future of communications. The Online Safety Group ensures UK citizens have a safer life online by implementing and overseeing the Online Safety Act 2023. This role is within the Fees team in OS Supervision, which engages closely with services under the online safety regime and promotes compliance across thousands of services.
The Senior Associate will play a central role in delivering and developing the Online Safety Fees regime, working on high-profile, novel policy issues at the intersection of online safety, regulatory scope, provider engagement, and policy implementation. This 12-month fixed-term role supports significant policy development, delivery, and review as the Fees regime completes its first full year of implementation.
Key responsibilities include leading complex policy work on scope issues such as geographic scope, marketplaces, and gaming; acting as a subject matter expert on the Fees regime; leading policy reviews, consultations, and recommendations; managing project governance and implementation; identifying risks and providing updates to governance groups; leading engagement with providers and cross-functional teams; communicating Fees-related policy and implementation issues; and supporting, coaching, and mentoring junior colleagues. The role contributes to a collaborative, high-performing team culture and offers opportunities to build leadership experience.
Experience
Experience in a regulatory, policy, compliance, or similarly evidence-based environment is essential. The candidate must be able to navigate complex issues balancing policy intent, legal considerations, and operational delivery. Strong written drafting and presentation skills are required to produce clear, concise, and understandable documents for internal and external audiences. Proven project management skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and deliver work effectively to deadlines are necessary.
Ability to build and nurture positive relationships both inside and outside the organisation is important. The candidate should be skilled at identifying and solving complex issues using evidence-based methods to develop well-founded solutions. Clear and concise communication skills are essential to articulate ideas and information effectively.
Experience in supporting others’ development and empowering colleagues through guidance and mentorship is highly valued.
