About the Role
Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, is seeking a Senior Associate to join our Technology Policy Team on a 12-month fixed term contract. Our team addresses critical questions about the impact of emerging technologies on online safety, including AI auditing, generative AI misuse, and content moderation technologies. You will support the Online Safety Group by developing evidence-based policy products, steering Ofcom’s approach to online safety regulation, and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders. This role involves managing tech policy workstreams, drafting policy consultations and code of practice measures, leading cross-functional teams, and communicating complex technical and policy concepts clearly to diverse audiences. You will build relationships with experts across academia, industry, government, and civil society, contributing to a positive and collaborative team culture.
Please note this role may involve exposure to potentially distressing content and Ofcom provides tailored support to colleagues undertaking this work.
Experience
Proven experience analysing and shaping policy on emerging technology issues with a strong understanding of relevant regulatory and policy frameworks. Demonstrated ability to independently design, oversee, and deliver projects on time and to a high standard. Skilled in drafting high-quality, evidence-led policy papers and communicating complex technical, legal, and policy concepts to specialist and non-specialist audiences. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and collaborate across diverse teams and disciplines. Sound judgement to make sensible recommendations aligned with Ofcom’s strategic priorities. Experience in task managing and supporting colleagues’ development.
About you
You are a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills and the ability to build consensus among stakeholders. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are motivated by contributing to public policy that makes a difference. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving technology landscape and can manage multiple priorities effectively.
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required. However, this role is particularly suited to candidates with deep subject matter expertise in areas such as content recommender systems, AI assurance and auditing techniques, generative AI, encryption, and/or content moderation technologies.
