Hours
Based in the Borough for 3 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community.

Salary
£44,937 per annum

About the Role
Strengthen building safety standards and lead the technical systems that keep our borough compliant. As a Senior Building Control Technician, you will supervise key processes and people, ensuring our Building Control service operates with accuracy, transparency and confidence.

You will supervise a team of Building Control Technicians, ensuring all applications, notices and certifications are managed accurately and in line with ISO 9001 standards and the requirements of the Building Safety Regulator.

A central responsibility will be overseeing the administration of the Building Safety Levy, including managing submissions, issuing statutory notices and taking appropriate enforcement action where regulations are not met. You will also take ownership of key financial processes, ensuring charges are issued and received correctly and overseeing phased payment arrangements for major applications across the borough.

You will maintain oversight of customer enquiries and performance data, monitoring service standards and identifying areas for improvement. Working closely with senior colleagues, you will support the embedding of new processes introduced following legislative changes and the Council’s response to the Grenfell Tower Public Inquiry.

Your role will also involve coordinating training activities aligned with the Building Inspector Competence Framework, responding to Freedom of Information requests and ensuring that governance, transparency and compliance remain at the heart of the service.

Joining RBKC means working within a respected Building Control service in a complex and high-profile borough. The projects supported range from major commercial developments and cultural institutions to the Council’s own corporate property portfolio.

This is a role where leadership, precision and accountability come together to make a tangible difference to the safety and integrity of our built environment.

Requirements

Experience
You will hold a Level 3 qualification or have equivalent professional experience. Experience supervising staff or overseeing systems is essential, as you will be responsible for maintaining high standards and supporting your team to meet performance targets.

You will have a sound understanding of the building control regime and experience working within quality management standards, ideally in an ISO 9001 environment. Experience with GIS systems and interpreting building plans would be advantageous.

About you
You will be a confident communicator, comfortable engaging with residents, contractors and internal colleagues. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail are critical.

Intermediate IT skills are required, including experience using Microsoft Office and financial systems.

Most importantly, you will take ownership of your work and demonstrate integrity, professionalism and a commitment to data protection, equal opportunities and delivering a trusted public service.
