The Senior Developer, AI & Emerging Tech is responsible for evolving the engineering and architecture of Burberry’s shared agentic AI platform. This includes the orchestration layer, observability, agent registry, prompt engineering patterns, model selection and evaluation frameworks that support Burberry’s enterprise agentic AI ambitions.

Reporting to the Director, EA within the centralised Architecture function, this role shapes the agentic AI platform strategy across IT, ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, well-governed and aligned with business and technology priorities. As a foundational role, it establishes engineering practices, tooling, documentation and knowledge bases to build and sustain this new capability.

Key responsibilities include designing, building and maintaining shared agentic platform services; owning the agent platform engineering layer to ensure orchestration, registration, monitoring and governance; developing prompt engineering patterns and evaluation methodologies; collaborating with architects and engineers to align platform engineering with enterprise standards; supporting domain and platform teams with engineering guidance; maintaining clear documentation; defining and enforcing platform service-level objectives; and continuously evaluating emerging AI tooling and frameworks.

Experience
Minimum 5 years in AI/ML engineering, platform engineering or software engineering roles.
Hands-on experience designing, building and operating agentic AI systems, LLM-based platforms or multi-agent orchestration frameworks on cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP.
Proficient in Python and modern software engineering practices.
Experience with LLM and agent development frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen or CrewAI.
Knowledge of RAG patterns, vector databases, embeddings, API design and integration (REST, event-driven, workflow-based), CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code, containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud AI services (preferably Microsoft Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Microsoft Copilot Studio or equivalents).
Operational experience building production-grade services with monitoring, alerting, logging, incident and release management, rollback procedures and service ownership.
Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns and agent interaction with systems, APIs and data sources.
Familiarity with AI governance, risk and security controls including model and prompt versioning, auditability, human-in-the-loop review, responsible AI guardrails, agent identity and access control, secrets management, data classification, data loss prevention, policy enforcement, bias monitoring and evaluation evidence.
Experience working in ambiguous, greenfield environments establishing engineering practices and standards.
Proven ability to influence and collaborate with senior technical stakeholders across matrixed enterprise organisations.
Knowledge of AI evaluation methodologies including automated testing of agent outputs, hallucination detection, regression testing for prompt changes and human-in-the-loop feedback loops.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to documentation, knowledge sharing and engineering consistency.
Experience in Retail, Luxury or Consumer goods industries is beneficial.
