About the Role

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will provide technical leadership across one or more scrums within a Digital product domain, accountable for the quality, pace, and standards of engineering output. You will lead mixed teams of permanent and third-party engineers, ensuring consistent development practices, high code quality, and effective management of delivery partners. Working closely with Solution Architects, Product Managers, and Senior Delivery Managers, you will ensure solutions are technically sound, scalable, and aligned with enterprise architectural guardrails. This role covers domains including Commerce, Content, and Fulfilment.

Your responsibilities include setting and enforcing engineering standards, providing robust estimates and capacity assessments, contributing to backlog refinement, owning the engineering approach for delivery, managing third-party partners, and overseeing vendor relationships. You will coordinate engineers and delivery roles, ensure technical quality through code reviews and testing coverage, and play an active role in agile ceremonies. Additionally, you will take accountability for production support and incident resolution, driving continuous improvement and innovation aligned with Burberry’s Tech Forward Digital Strategy. Partnering with the Security function, you will also ensure adherence to secure coding practices and standards.

Experience
Proven experience in engineering leadership, technical lead, or lead developer roles within technology delivery environments. Strong technical depth across relevant technology stacks with the ability to scrutinise partner engineering output and challenge estimates. Experienced in managing mixed teams of permanent staff and third-party delivery partners. Familiarity with modern development practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and agile delivery. Experience with Burberry’s core platform technologies such as SAP, Salesforce, Contentstack, Databricks, or integration middleware is preferred.

Comfortable balancing hands-on technical oversight with people and delivery leadership responsibilities. Effective communicator able to translate technical complexity into clear language for product and delivery stakeholders. Proactive in driving engineering standards, quality practices, and continuous improvement. Collaborative and able to work closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Delivery, Architecture, Procurement, and Security.
