Location
Hybrid working based at any of UKHSA's Core HQs: Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, and London. You will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of your contractual working hours (approximately 3 days a week pro rata) working at one of these locations.

Salary
Senior Executive Officer (SEO) £41,983 - £52,113 per year depending on location and experience.

About the Role
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) prevents, prepares for, and responds to infectious diseases and environmental hazards to protect public health and build national health security capability. As a Senior Evidence Reviewer, you will support the use of evidence for public health advice and guidance by conducting rapid evidence reviews using systematic and rapid review methodologies. Your work will include screening studies, data extraction, critical appraisal, and evidence synthesis across a variety of topics and timeframes ranging from several days to weeks.

You will collaborate within a review team using software such as Endnote, Eppi Reviewer, and Microsoft Teams. Your role also involves methodological development, translating evidence into tailored messages and summaries, and developing critical appraisal tools. You will work matrix-style with colleagues nationally and locally, and may engage with external partners.

Additional responsibilities include supporting others in producing or commissioning evidence reviews, delivering training and capacity building, quality assuring team outputs, and contributing to the development of review procedures and standards. You may also line manage or supervise team members and support UKHSA’s incident response activities as required.

Experience
- Educated to first degree level in a science-related subject or equivalent relevant experience in a scientific or technical specialist area.
- Post-graduate degree or equivalent experience in epidemiology or a related field.
- Knowledge of review methodologies including systematic and rapid reviews.
- Experience conducting systematic or rapid evidence reviews in public health or a relevant field.
- Experience in critical appraisal or risk of bias assessments.
- Experience writing reports and presenting public health evidence in a usable way.
- Proficient in the use of spreadsheets, databases, and reference management software.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain professional relationships.
- Ability to work independently, use initiative, manage workload, and make informed decisions under tight and changing deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
