About the Role
The Senior Java Developer will play a key role in the engineering and delivery of a critical market-infrastructure service within the Equities platform at London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), with a strong focus on AWS cloud-native development. Reporting directly to the Senior Technical Delivery Engineer, Post Trade, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining performant, resilient, and scalable backend services built predominantly in Scala. As a senior member of the engineering team, you will help shape technical direction, contribute to best-in-class engineering standards, and actively support the continued growth and evolution of the business.

Key responsibilities include a strong focus on engineering excellence and coding, hands-on problem solving, deep engagement in technical design and implementation, and active contribution across all stages of the product engineering lifecycle including solutioning, design, coding, and testing. You will embrace and apply LSEG engineering principles to build with purpose and foster excellence within the team.

Experience
- Strong experience with event-driven microservices architecture, including microservices design, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and event-driven architecture principles.
- Skilled in containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Expertise in event-driven patterns and working knowledge of event/message brokers such as Kafka and MQ.
- Proven experience building and maintaining DevOps pipelines, ideally with GitLab.
- Proficient in shift-left testing using tools like JUnit, Cucumber, Gherkin, PACT, and Test Containers.
- Advanced Scala programming skills with strong proficiency in both functional and object-oriented paradigms.
- Deep practical expertise with Scala frameworks and libraries such as Akka, Play Framework, Cats/Scalaz.
- Experience delivering enterprise-grade Scala applications focusing on quality, resilience, performance, and observability.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and multi-threading.
- Strong SQL knowledge and experience with relational databases such as Postgres.
- Familiarity with object storage solutions like AWS S3 and database version control tools such as Flyway and Liquibase.
- Experience working with AWS cloud services including Aurora, MSK, S3, and IAM.
- Basic understanding of cloud networking concepts.
- Strong understanding and commitment to Agile ways of working, with experience in Scrum and Kanban frameworks.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in scaled agile environments.
- Some experience writing applications using Java.
- Experience developing web applications using ReactJS.

Relevant technical qualifications or equivalent professional experience in software engineering, particularly with Scala and Java development, cloud-native architectures, and agile methodologies, are desirable but not mandatory. A strong portfolio of delivered projects and demonstrable skills is highly valued.
