About the Role
This role covers two senior G6 prosecutor positions within the Service Prosecuting Authority (SPA): Senior Prosecutor and RASODA (Rape, Serious Offences and Domestic Abuse) Lead. Both roles are responsible for leading or supporting prosecution of serious, complex, and sensitive cases within the Service Justice System (SJS), including rape and serious sexual offences (RASSO), serious violence, domestic abuse, and high-risk or high-profile matters.

The Senior Prosecutor leads prosecution of the most serious and complex cases, providing strategic case direction and supporting prosecution performance, professional standards, and continuous improvement. This role involves regular court attendance and handling cases across a broad spectrum of criminal offending including serious violence and fraud.

The RASODA Lead has specialist responsibility for RASSO and domestic abuse casework, supporting SPA prosecutors in assessing and prosecuting these cases, benchmarking SPA casework against civilian justice best practice, and developing SPA training, guidance, and policy on RASODA work. The role also supports concurrent jurisdiction issues, disclosure, and provides early legal advice to Service Police Forces.

Both roles require independent prosecutorial judgement in line with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, ensuring decisions are legally robust, fair, and in the public and Service interest. Responsibilities include conducting casework, making and reviewing charging decisions, providing legal advice, and advocacy in the Court Martial and Court Martial Appeal Court.

These positions provide strategic leadership across SPA, working at senior levels within Defence and the criminal justice system, contributing to policy development and SPA’s internal training programme for advocates.

The post holder reports to the Director of Service Prosecutions and works closely with the Deputy Director, who has operational accountability for prosecutors’ deployment, workload, and business objectives. These are the most senior prosecutors who routinely attend court.
