About the Role
Thank you for considering the position of Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (WOME) Assurance Officer. This varied role is essential to assuring the delivery of strategically important WOME export contracts to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It suits a flexible and confident quality assurance professional with WOME experience, able to represent HM Government across industry and with the export customer.

The MOD – Saudi Armed Forces Projects (MODSAP) is a unique and exciting environment, forming a crucial part of the strategic defence relationship between the UK and Saudi Arabia. You will join MODSAP at a pivotal time as Saudi Arabia undertakes significant societal reforms while facing ongoing regional and national security challenges.

The UK-Saudi bilateral relationship accounts for over a third of all UK defence exports, with MODSAP overseeing delivery of services worth billions to the UK economy. This large, complex programme has been running for 40 years and is central to the strategy for the 2030s and beyond.

MODSAP is undergoing internal organisational change and transformation to meet future demands, including modernising business processes and enhancing collaboration across governments and industries. Where business needs allow, some roles may offer a hybrid working arrangement with a minimum of 60% office attendance. Attendance at other MOD locations for official business may also be required.

Main responsibilities include management of WOME contract planning and assurance of Prime Contractor performance, acting as Safety Assurance Officer, conducting contractor audits in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere, and providing advice and assistance to Royal Saudi Air Force and Saudi Government officials on WOME matters including safety, training, technical standards, and continual improvement.

Experience
- Highly credible WOME engineering experience through maintenance, manufacture, qualification, or certification activities.
- Quality management experience as an auditor or coordinator, particularly managing contractors.
- Ability to operate confidently and independently on site, representing UK MOD with UK and overseas suppliers and the Saudi customer.

Qualifications
- Essential: A recognised engineering or quality assurance qualification.
- Desirable:
- Professional registration at Incorporated Engineer standard through membership of an appropriate professional body such as IExpE or IET.
- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.
- Government Quality Assurance License.
- Project or programme management qualifications such as AMP PMQ, MSP or similar.

Desirable Experience
- Knowledge and implementation of UK MOD WOME safety management.
- Experience working with industry and customers in an international setting.
- Experience managing air-launched weapons within operational, maintenance, or air system qualification environments.
- Leadership, management, or advisory role within a formal safety management system.
- Knowledge of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).
