About the Role
We are seeking a passionate Social Care Officer to join the Children in Care Service within the London Borough of Newham. This role is ideal for someone committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families. You will support social workers with assessments and interventions for vulnerable children and families, assist with specialist tasks such as chronologies, genograms, life-story work, and direct work with children. You will contribute to home visits alongside social workers and help complete case closure tasks.

You will liaise with partner agencies to gather information for assessments and safeguarding enquiries, support the development of multi-agency safeguarding plans by analysing and sharing relevant information, and take accurate minutes for key meetings including CIN, CGM, PLO, and strategy meetings. Maintaining high-quality, timely, and accurate case records in line with statutory requirements is essential.

The role also involves handling enquiries from families and professionals sensitively and professionally, organising service meetings, diaries, venues, and follow-up processes to ensure smooth service operations. You will manage onboarding tasks for new staff, support recruitment activities, and provide administrative and coordination support for small projects and service requests.

Maintaining data accuracy on systems such as Azeus, ensuring compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, equality, and diversity standards, and supporting practical arrangements such as bookings, ordering supplies, and managing documentation are key responsibilities. You will coordinate, facilitate, and where relevant supervise contact arrangements for children and families and record outcomes.

Additionally, you may undertake tasks as a family support worker, supporting children and their parents/carers within their homes or communities.

Requirements

Experience
Experience working with children and families in a social care or related setting is desirable. Previous involvement in safeguarding, assessments, or family support roles will be advantageous.

About you
You are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children and families. You have excellent communication and organisational skills, are able to work sensitively and professionally with families and partner agencies, and can manage multiple tasks efficiently. You demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion. You are adaptable and able to work effectively in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in social care, health and social work, or a related field are preferred but not mandatory. A willingness to undertake further training and development is essential. You must be able to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to the nature of the role.
