Salary
£34,186 per annum

About the Role
As a Special Schools Therapy Assistant, you will undertake specific individual or group programmes as assessed and directed by trained staff members, observing the general behaviour, ability, and response of children, recording information as requested and reporting to a supervisor. Settings may include clinic, home, or school.

You will engage children in therapeutic activities to promote speech, language, communication development, participation, and independence skills. You will facilitate and participate in planned activities, seeking guidance if a child's condition changes.

Your responsibilities include assisting in the implementation of team member interventions such as running therapy groups, carrying out therapy programmes directed by Speech and Language Therapists (SLT) or Occupational Therapists (OT), and providing a range of treatments under supervision to support children in achieving identified goals.

You will assist with organising and scheduling visits, support home assessments, and adhere to Trust policies and procedures. You will help complete risk assessments of environments and safety under guidance, ensure toys and play materials are clean, safe, and secure, and assist therapists in preparing clinical resources such as visual timetables, PODD books, or other materials.

Additional duties include assisting with programming high-tech AAC devices, maintaining equipment, supporting the team in gathering evidence and developing resources, and providing training or demonstrations to teachers and schools under therapist guidance.

You will also participate in team meetings and provide cover for general administrative duties such as answering telephones, scanning, uploading, laminating, and photocopying when requested.

Requirements

Experience
Experience working with children in therapeutic or educational settings is desirable but not essential. You will receive guidance and supervision from qualified therapists.

About you
You should be motivated, patient, and enthusiastic about supporting children with special needs. You must be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, follow instructions carefully, and communicate effectively with children, families, and professionals.

Good organisational skills and the ability to manage administrative tasks accurately are important. You should be adaptable and willing to learn new skills, including the use of therapy equipment and technology.

Qualifications
There are no formal qualifications required for this role, but relevant experience or training in therapy assistance, education, or health care is advantageous. A commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to Trust policies is essential.
