About the Role
The post holder will support the Speech and Language Therapy team working with clients with learning disabilities in the London Borough of Camden. This role involves facilitating communication skills of clients under direct and indirect supervision from a speech and language therapist. The postholder will work with clients, their families, and paid carers, supporting carers to implement therapy approaches. Key responsibilities include undertaking informal observation assessments, documenting client progress, preparing visual support materials such as communication books and passports, and implementing therapy packages of care. The role also involves administrative duties including organising training courses and managing clinical resources.

The postholder will develop a basic theoretical understanding of communication difficulties associated with learning disabilities and appropriate communication techniques. They will work with young adults and adults who may have complex needs such as autism. Strong communication skills are essential to effectively convey information sensitively to clients, families, and carers, adapting communication methods to meet individual needs. The role includes contributing to the induction and training of new staff and supporting multi-agency teams.

Main duties include running therapy sessions and groups, preparing therapy materials, maintaining electronic case records, managing workload priorities, and reporting safeguarding concerns. The postholder will adhere to health and safety and infection control policies, employ behaviour management strategies, and participate in team meetings and professional development activities. They will also contribute to clinical audit and research programmes and undertake any other duties as required by the Speech and Language Therapy Services Manager.

Experience
Experience working with clients with learning disabilities or in a healthcare setting is desirable but not explicitly required. The role requires the ability to work under supervision and follow therapy plans.
