About the Role
As a member of the Special Schools team, you will work closely with children, families, the multidisciplinary team (MDT), and school staff, maintaining confidentiality at all times. You will assist in delivering therapy input through individual and group sessions, developing skills in alternative communication methods such as PODD, Makaton, and other AAC systems. Your role includes using a variety of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to engage children with diverse needs, including those who are non-verbal, from non-English speaking backgrounds, or with cognitive, learning, behavioural, or sensory impairments.

You will maintain accurate written and electronic records in line with Trust standards and report on children's development and performance. Liaising with other agencies involved in the child's care, including education, Social Services, and Voluntary Services, will be part of your responsibilities. You will assist in running therapy groups, implementing therapy programmes under supervision, and supporting the preparation of clinical resources such as visual timetables and AAC devices.

Additional duties include organising visits, assisting with home assessments, supporting audits, and ensuring clinical environments are safe and well-resourced. You will also contribute to training and supporting school staff and junior therapy assistants, participate in service audits, and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.

Experience
Experience working with children with additional needs is desirable but not essential. Previous exposure to therapy or educational settings is advantageous. Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults from diverse backgrounds is important.

Good communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, including telephone and face-to-face interactions. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and liaise with external agencies. Competent in using computer systems such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and data management programs. Willingness to learn and develop skills in alternative communication methods and therapy techniques.

Qualifications
No formal qualifications are specified, but relevant training or experience in therapy assistance, education, or health care is beneficial. Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to Trust policies is required.
