Description
We have an exciting opportunity in the Campaigns, Advocacy & Activism directoratefor a Strategic Campaigns and Communication lead to deliver our ambitious national campaign programme.
The role is a full time (37.5 hrs per week) permanent contract. We are flexible on working location, but you must be able to work from our office in London once a week.
We are looking for someone with a background in marketing, communications, or campaign planning, which you will use to coordinate activity across the Campaigns, Advocacy & Activism (CAA) directorate and help shape our ways of working.
You will have strategic oversight of Mencap's priority campaigning areas (health, social care, homes not hospitals, education, employment and bullying), supporting delivery of national campaigns, with maximum impact. You will work collaboratively across Mencap to ensure our campaigns are fully inclusive and that people with lived experience are at the heart of the decision-making process.
We are looking for someone who is a strategic thinker, able to understand audiences and shape communications, a natural problem solver and negotiator, who canmake clear recommendations and suggestions on comms and campaign strategy, you will also identify pinch points, barriers and suggest solutions.

Essential skills and experiences for this role (but not limited to):
- A passion to challenge the barriers that people with a learning disability face in society
- Knowledge and experience of marketing and strategic communications, including audience segmentation and channel strategy
- Experience of developing and shaping narratives and key messages for different audiences
- Understanding of how campaigning influences national policy makers
- Experience of managing multiple complex projects / campaigns
- Experience of anticipating and solving problems, negotiation and influencing a range of stakeholders
- Ability to work in an agile way
