About the Role

As a System Safety Design Engineer, you will contribute to the HS2 Track infrastructure project during its initial design phase, working within a collaborative Rail Systems Alliance structure. This role involves ensuring system safety compliance, risk analysis, and preparation of safety documentation under the guidance of the Lead Systems Safety Engineer. You will collaborate closely with designers, clients, and other stakeholders to manage design interfaces, resources, and logistics to meet cost and schedule objectives.

Your key responsibilities will include hazard identification and risk assessment, defining safety requirements, supporting safety case development, conducting safety analyses such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA). You will also support compliance with safety standards, participate in audits and incident investigations, and report findings to the lead systems safety engineer.

Requirements

Experience
Experience in a safety engineering role, preferably within the rail industry.

About you
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and develop effective solutions. Excellent communication skills to convey complex safety information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborative team player capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams and managing stakeholder expectations.

Qualifications
A degree in engineering or a related field. Further qualifications in safety engineering are considered advantageous. A strong understanding of engineering principles, safety standards, and hazard analysis techniques is essential.
