About the Role
The Office for Veterans’ Affairs (OVA), within the Ministry of Defence (MOD), coordinates the delivery of the Veterans Strategy, which sets the government’s vision for veterans and challenges society to recognise their value and potential. The strategy is grounded in three core themes that ensure the best outcomes for veterans and the UK, supported by the Armed Forces Covenant.

In May 2025, the government launched VALOUR, the first UK-wide government-led approach to veteran support, backed by £50 million funding. This programme aims to provide ex-Service personnel with easier access to services across health, housing, and employment.

As a VALOUR Field Officer, you will play a crucial role in partnership and stakeholder engagement, working closely with local government and the VCSE sector to build networks connecting local, regional, and national services. You will act as a strategic link into Defence for communities on veterans’ affairs and support Defence colleagues with expert knowledge of local activities and system performance.

You will drive collective performance through data and insight, convene and influence policy and delivery at regional and local levels, and facilitate alignment between national, devolved, and local strategies. Your work will promote consistent delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant and improve services for the Armed Forces community.

This role involves significant travel, primarily within Greater London and other UK locations, with travel expenses reimbursed in line with departmental policy. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to evolving priorities in the Armed Forces support landscape are essential.

Experience
- Strong interpersonal skills managing relationships with diverse stakeholders across sectors and seniority levels
- Proven communication skills, including public speaking and presentations
- Experience in stakeholder management, collaborative working, and forum development
- Ability to work remotely, act on initiative, and be self-starting
- Organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and plan workload efficiently
- Confidence navigating complex environments with strong problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of the Armed Forces Covenant, military service challenges, and civilian transition
- Willingness to undertake frequent travel, mainly local and regional, with some UK-wide travel

About you

Qualifications
- A full UK Driving Licence is desirable but not essential
- Experience or understanding of local government structures and Armed Forces community support is advantageous
- Knowledge of local Armed Forces support services is beneficial
