About the Role
As a Visual Impairment Rehabilitation Officer, you will support residents with sensory impairments to rebuild confidence, develop practical skills, and live independently within their local communities. Your primary focus will be conducting needs-led assessments and delivering tailored rehabilitation programmes for residents of all ages living with visual, hearing, or dual sensory impairments across the borough.

Your work will include practical daily living skills, mobility and orientation training, and low vision support to help residents navigate their environments safely and maintain autonomy. You will provide specialist advice on accessible communication methods, order essential equipment within allocated budgets, educate on technology accessibility features, and signpost to relevant sensory services.

You will collaborate closely with families, health professionals, housing teams, and voluntary sector partners to coordinate joint assessments and chair network meetings, ensuring comprehensive care. Acting as a trusted adviser, you will promote accessible environments across public and residential venues, contribute to service development projects, and maintain accurate records within Council IT systems.

Operating under statutory frameworks including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding procedures, you will balance resident choice with safety to achieve positive outcomes.

This role requires an enhanced DBS check with Adults barred list. Interviews are scheduled for the week commencing 21st September 2026.

You will be based in the borough for three days a week, conducting home assessments, training residents on local routes, and collaborating with partner agencies as part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents’ lives.

Joining the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea means becoming part of a supportive sensory service team committed to professional development through regular supervision, structured training, and opportunities to deepen your expertise in complex rehabilitation. Alongside a competitive salary and flexible hybrid working arrangements, you will work in an environment that values your development and offers the chance to directly support residents to thrive.
