As Works Manager - Track Specialist Design Management, you will play a pivotal role in the safe and timely execution of track installation works on major UK projects. Initially, you will focus on ensuring design development prioritizes constructability and efficient delivery. Reporting to Engineering Leadership, you will collaborate closely with Design and Delivery Teams, external design partners, and Alliance members to manage design for Temporary Railheads, Resilient Track, and Switches & Crossings (S&C). This role involves promoting best practices in health, safety, sustainability, cost, time, buildability, and quality. You will manage the design process to ensure solutions are safe, efficient, compliant, and delivered on schedule and within budget. Responsibilities include implementing 3D design delivery strategies aligned with the BIM Execution Plan, participating in engineering workshops and steering groups, reviewing technical proposals, and maintaining SHE risk awareness. You will coordinate design programmes, obtain necessary approvals, interface with Network Rail and stakeholders, and provide expert guidance to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with Works Information requirements. Additionally, you will identify opportunities to improve safety, buildability, quality, and value, manage design changes, organize coordination meetings, prepare reports, and oversee document control. The role also includes managing junior team members and maintaining professional relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers. Experience
- Extensive experience in design and construction of ballasted and ballastless track.
- Experience in resilient slab track is positively assessed.
- Experience in design and construction of Switches and Crossings.
- Proven ability to manage and deliver design and construction interfaces between track systems and other railway systems.
- Knowledge of track design procedures and standards.
- Experience working in collaborative multidisciplinary teams.
- Successful experience in design delivery coordination within design offices.
- Good commercial understanding of contracts, procurement routes, and risk management.
- Thorough understanding of 3D design and BIM with a drive to improve digital construction benefits.
- Excellent communication skills for both personal interaction and formal reporting.
- Practical experience harmonizing design and quality requirements with buildability and strong problem-solving skills.

Qualifications
- Degree qualification in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
