About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to forge a career in Environmental Health within a forward-looking borough. The apprenticeship offers bespoke training and work experience leading to qualification as an Environmental Health Practitioner. You will be based in the Food Safety and Health & Safety teams, with opportunities to cross-train across other regulatory functions within the Council. This career path is currently in short supply nationally and offers excellent employment prospects for the future.

This apprenticeship requires a commitment to the full 4-year term of learning and demonstrates ambition to develop a career in environmental health by excelling in duties within Newham’s Licensing & Regulatory Services.

Experience
Some understanding of environmental health disciplines within local government is beneficial. Experience or knowledge in carrying out inspections and investigations, following procedures when dealing with complaints, and demonstrating patience and calmness in stressful situations is advantageous.

About you
You must be ambitious, innovative, and possess strong interpersonal skills. You should be confident in explaining legislation and procedures to people from diverse backgrounds, with attention to detail and the ability to analyse and solve problems with sustainable solutions. Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Qualifications
- Grade 4 / C or above in English and Maths GCSE (or other level 2 equivalent)
- 96 UCAS points (typically at grades CCC – A level or level 3 equivalent)
- Minimum of one science or technology based subject at A level (or equivalent)
