About the Role
The Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Social Worker is responsible for undertaking Mental Health Act assessments and associated statutory work across the London Boroughs of Richmond and Wandsworth, maintaining consistently high standards of professional practice and service delivery. This is a key statutory role, requiring a high level of professional autonomy and complexity to ensure individuals experience timely, lawful, and person-centred interventions.
We are seeking experienced and committed AMHPs to join our dedicated daytime AMHP Team covering Richmond and Wandsworth. You will deliver high-quality AMHP practice in accordance with relevant legislation and guidance, working collaboratively with partner agencies to safeguard and promote the wellbeing, rights, and choices of service users.
Key responsibilities include delivering AMHP services in line with the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended), Mental Capacity Act 2005, Care Act 2014, Children Act 1989, and Council policies; undertaking and supporting social supervision of conditionally discharged patients; managing complex and high-risk assessments; maintaining professional competence and registration; participating in training, forums, and reflective practice groups; promoting service user choice and empowerment; undertaking statutory safeguarding interventions; contributing to service development; and maintaining accurate, confidential records in line with data protection requirements.

Experience
- AMHP qualified
- Experience working as an approved AMHP within the last 5 years
- Maintained AMHP regulations annual training requirements
