About the Role
The London Borough of Bromley is seeking two enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Accountants to join our highly motivated, high-performing, and friendly Finance Team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop their finance career within a supportive local government environment. The successful candidates will play a key role in delivering a comprehensive financial service across a range of Council services.

Reporting directly to a Senior Accountant, you will work in a busy and dynamic environment, providing financial support and advice to service managers and budget holders while assisting the wider Finance Team.

Key responsibilities include assisting in the preparation of annual budgets, estimates, and year-end closure of accounts; providing day-to-day financial advice and support to budget holders and service managers; supporting the Senior Accountant and Principal Finance Officer in delivering an effective finance service; maintaining the Council's financial systems including budget input and monitoring, budget adjustments, journal transfers, bank reconciliations, and other financial administration activities as required; producing, analysing, and interpreting financial information and reports; and assisting with financial monitoring, forecasting, and budget management activities.

This role offers a hybrid working pattern with 2 days per week office attendance.

Requirements

Experience
Experience of financial administration and financial controls within a large organisation is essential.

About you
You will possess a sound understanding of accounting principles, budgeting, and budgetary control. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and financial/accounting systems is required. Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively to meet deadlines are important. You should demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues. Confidence in analysing, interpreting, and presenting financial information is also necessary.

Qualifications
Ideally, you will hold an AAT qualification or be actively studying towards a recognised accounting or finance qualification.
