About the Role
Support the delivery of building surveying services across Barnet Council’s managed estate by assisting senior surveyors with inspections, surveys, project delivery, statutory compliance, design, tendering, contract management and other duties. This role offers structured development and training to progress towards professional membership through the RICS Building Surveying pathway (RICS APC). The Assistant Building Surveyor will help maintain, improve and safeguard the Council’s estate including corporate buildings, community assets, schools, and libraries, ensuring they are safe, compliant, well-maintained and fit for purpose. Working under senior surveyors’ guidance, the postholder will gain practical experience in core building surveying disciplines such as condition assessments, feasibility studies, project design and delivery, statutory compliance (fire safety, asbestos, accessibility), and maintaining accurate records.
Experience
Experience gained through university projects, placements, internships, or early employment in surveying, construction, or property. Experience drafting technical documentation, reports, schedules or drawings.
About you
Committed to progressing towards Chartered status with enrolment on the MRICS Building Surveying pathway or similar professional membership. Knowledge of core building surveying principles including building pathology, construction technology, design and specification, contract administration, legal and regulatory compliance, and RICS guidance.
Qualifications
Degree (or equivalent) in Building Surveying, Building Studies, Construction, or a related built-environment discipline.
