About the Role
We are recruiting three Assistant Finance Manager positions within the Finance Team supporting Adults & Health, Inclusive Economy & Housing, and Financial Strategy. Based in the vibrant London Borough of Newham, these roles are key to improving financial management, control, and accountability across the organisation, enabling effective and proactive financial planning.
As an Assistant Finance Manager, you will support strategic financial reporting or partnering activities for front-line services, fusing innovation, effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability into your work. You will help build a sustainable, highly effective service that delivers exceptional support to the council and its residents.
Your work will directly impact the lives of over 350,000 residents and millions of workers and visitors by introducing robust planning, identifying new revenue streams, and supporting investment in resident-centric services.
Adults & Health
Support high-quality financial management across Adult Social Care and Public Health services, assist with budget forecasting and monitoring, develop financial models and variance analysis, contribute to transformation projects, and provide budget monitoring and year-end financial process support.
Inclusive Economy & Housing
Work predominantly with Housing Services to support budget monitoring and management, provide financial advice, support MTFS savings delivery, conduct financial modelling and reconciliations, monitor funding sources, and analyse arrears to find solutions.
Financial Strategy
Support the development of the Council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy and budget management, model growth and savings, maintain key finance methodologies, support scenario modelling, coordinate monthly budget monitoring, analyse savings and investment options, assist with outturn position and account closing, and provide finance support to the Transformation Team.
These roles require individuals who are innovative, lead by example, and are committed to delivering efficient and effective financial services that support organisational transformation and community wellbeing.
Experience
Relevant experience in finance, ideally with 2+ years working in the sector. Experience in financial management, budget monitoring, forecasting, financial modelling, and supporting transformation projects is highly desirable.

Qualifications
