About the Role
Join the London Borough of Newham and help build a fairer community. We are a vibrant, dynamic, and culturally rich borough with a young population and limitless potential. Our Children with Disabilities (CwD) Social Work Team provides statutory services to children and families living with disabilities. This role offers a varied caseload including new referrals, Children in Need (CiN), Child Protection (CP), and looked after cases. The work is often long term and rewarding, focusing on sustaining and improving the quality of life for young people and their families.
Social work in Newham is underpinned by systemic and restorative practice, with high-quality relationships at the heart of our approach. We are committed to creating an inclusive culture that reflects the diversity of the families we serve and to challenging all forms of discrimination and injustice.
We value your wellbeing and offer a better work/life balance through remote working options when not visiting families, modern office spaces, a flexible working policy, and clinical support to help you perform at your best.
As part of our Family Support and Safeguarding Service, you will be involved in meaningful, impactful social work that advocates for children and families, enabling them to learn, grow, and thrive.
Experience
You must be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England and have completed your ASYE. You should have statutory children’s social work experience, including supporting children living with disabilities. We also welcome social workers with extensive experience in other statutory teams, provided you have a firm understanding of SEND and the processes affecting children and young people with disabilities.
About you
You are patient, tolerant, and able to be a calming influence on families. Building trust and connecting with families to find effective support strategies is essential. You are passionate, trustworthy, empathetic, and genuinely committed to advocating for children and their families. Strong emotional strength and resilience are key qualities that enable you to thrive in this challenging yet rewarding role.
Qualifications
Qualified social worker status with Social Work England registration and completion of ASYE are required. Additional training or experience in SEND and disability-related social work is highly valued.
