About the Role
Join the London Borough of Newham and help build a fairer community. We are a vibrant, dynamic, and culturally rich borough with a young population and limitless potential. Our Children with Disabilities (CwD) Social Work Team provides statutory services to children and families living with disabilities. You will manage a varied caseload including new referrals, Children in Need (CiN), Child Protection (CP), and looked after cases. This role involves long-term, rewarding work focused on sustaining and improving the quality of life for young people and their families.
Our social work practice is underpinned by Systemic and Restorative approaches, placing high-quality relationships at the heart of our work. We offer a hybrid working model with a modern office space and remote working options when not visiting children and families. We support your wellbeing with flexible working policies and clinical support to help you deliver your best work.
As part of our commitment to building a Fairer Newham, we are reimagining family support services by combining Assessment and Intervention teams into a new Family Support and Safeguarding Service. This is an opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking, inclusive, and supportive environment where your work makes a real difference.
Our team members describe working in CwD as unique and busy in a positive way, offering opportunities to gain specialist knowledge, engage in assessments, court work, and the looked after process. You will be an advocate for children and families, helping them learn, grow, and improve their quality of life.
Experience
Qualified social worker registered with Social Work England with completed ASYE and subsequent statutory children’s social work experience. Experience supporting children living with disabilities is essential. We also consider social workers with extensive experience in other statutory teams but with a firm understanding of SEND and processes affecting children and young people with disabilities.
About you
Patience, tolerance, and the ability to be a calming influence on families are key. You must be able to build trust and connect with families, finding strategies to support them effectively. Passion, trustworthiness, empathy, and a genuine commitment to advocating for children and families are essential. Strong emotional strength and resilience are required to thrive in this role.
Qualifications
Registered social worker with Social Work England and completion of ASYE. Relevant statutory social work qualifications and experience supporting children with disabilities are necessary.
