About the Role
Guy’s and St Thomas’ Trust is one of the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts, providing a full range of hospital and community services across south London, including specialist care in cancer, renal, orthopaedics, respiratory and cardiovascular services. The Trust includes five renowned hospitals: Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield, alongside community services in Lambeth and Southwark.

The Royal Brompton Outpatients Department hosts several world-class clinics recognised nationally and internationally for clinical excellence in Lung, Heart and Paediatrics divisions. The Assistant General Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management and operational delivery of the Outpatient Department, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and divisional leads. This role includes managing the service management team responsible for reception, scheduling and pathway validation, and playing a pivotal role in key transformation projects such as improving clinic room utilisation and reviewing space requirements.

The Trust is committed to clinical excellence, research and innovation, with a workforce of around 22,700 staff dedicated to delivering high quality, safe and efficient care. The Assistant General Manager will contribute to maintaining this high standard through effective leadership and operational management.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience managing successful projects and operational performance improvements including business case preparation, service initiation, commissioning, contract negotiation, and monitoring of output and outcome measures.
- Operational experience managing complex services involving design, development, implementation and change management in multi-stakeholder environments.
- Experience managing complex budgets from diverse income sources with demonstrated skills in individual, team, financial, process and change management.
- Knowledge of the NHS environment, strategy and policy agendas is desirable.
- Understanding of lean methodology is desirable.

About you
- Extensive knowledge of operations and project management methodologies and contract management.
- Proven track record of successful change management.
- Strong analytical and judgement skills, including the ability to interpret complex statistical and numerical data.
- Ability to work flexibly, prioritise workloads and resource effectively in response to changing demands.
- Excellent management skills including motivating and coaching staff.
- Innovative problem-solving abilities.
- IT literate with competency in MS Office, particularly Excel.

Qualifications
- Relevant Masters degree, equivalent professional qualification or equivalent experience.
- Evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development.
