About the Role
Balfour Beatty is seeking an Assistant Package Manager / Sub Agent to join our Major Projects team at the iconic Old Oak Common station development in North-West London. This role involves managing the construction and coordination of all permanent and temporary works within the conventional station area. HS2’s new £1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UK’s best-connected rail station upon completion, featuring six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. The station will provide high-speed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, the North, and direct services to three major airports, alongside passenger and retail facilities to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
The project supports up to 65,000 jobs and 25,000 homes in the local area, contributing to one of Britain’s largest regeneration projects. A new public park, part of the Urban Realm, will be located to the west of the station, providing green space and a community focal point. At peak construction, the project will employ a direct management team of 140 and a wider workforce of approximately 2,500.
Key responsibilities include package management of Structural Steel and Envelope packages, managing subcontractor deliverables, measuring performance, raising health, safety and environmental issues, and managing day-to-day interface activities. You will be responsible for construction sequence strategy, scope analysis, identifying scope gaps, producing procurement documentation, liaising with designers, and proposing value engineering improvements.
Specific duties include:
- Ensuring safe, healthy, and environmentally sound delivery of all entrusted works
- Leading a team of two Assistant Package Managers
- Collaborating with the package design management team and subcontractors to deliver subcontract design portions
- Working with the package QS to manage contract communications
- Tracking subcontractor deliverables and managing Activity Readiness certification
- Managing documentation approval processes and liaising with the wider Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA team
- Reviewing subcontractor performance and proposing improvements
- Resolving escalated clashes between subcontractors
- Accurately reporting and documenting progress, including subcontractor operatives and plant activity on site
Experience
- BSc, MSc, or BEng qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent GNVQ
- CSCS card holder
- Experience in structural steel work, roofing, cladding, and glazing scopes
- Good general civil engineering experience on large infrastructure projects
- Experience with Network Rail and TfL interface
- Experience with Thames Water or other water industry companies and utilities providers
- Experience implementing and communicating in accordance with NEC3 contracts
- Familiarity with document control systems such as BC, eB, CEMAR
- Good understanding of contracts and identifying notifiable events (NEC3)
- Awareness of procurement processes and scope documentation detail
- Ability to analyse Works Information and identify scope gaps

Qualifications
