About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Assistant Service Manager within the Emergency Department at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate must be proactive in their approach, with good problem-solving abilities and a flexible, can-do attitude to resolve issues within the Emergency Floor. We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, and innovative individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships across a multi-professional team, adapting to an evolving service to ensure the continuous delivery of high-quality patient care.

Main Duties of the Job
This role will support the Service Manager in delivering operational targets, monitoring performance, and directly line managing a team of administrators. The successful candidate will possess excellent data and staff management skills along with analytical capabilities. The post holder must be able to lead and motivate teams with a high degree of self-motivation, have experience in people management, and a keen attention to detail. IT literacy and the ability to navigate trust IT systems are essential. The individual should be adaptable, possess excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, and have strong communication and problem-solving abilities. The ability to multitask and use initiative in a busy environment is crucial.

Requirements

Experience
Significant experience of staff supervision and management, including recruitment, retention, appraisal, first-line disciplinary actions, and knowledge of budget management issues. Experience of delivering Administrative and Clerical Services is essential.

About You
We are looking for a candidate who is educated to HNC/Equivalent Diploma or has equivalent experience, with GCSE Maths and English. A track record of significant continuous professional and management development is required. Strong verbal and written communication skills, leadership and influencing skills, and the ability to respond to changing demands are essential. Financial management and analysis skills are desirable.

Qualifications
The successful applicant must have a strong motivation to work independently and the ability to meet operational objectives. Experience in contributing to meeting strategic objectives is desirable.
