About the Role
The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a Building Control Technical Support Officer to play a central role within the Technical Support Team for Building Control. This position serves as the first point of contact for customers, visitors, and both internal and external partners, providing a welcoming and informed service. The role requires a strong working knowledge of current Building Control administrative practices, procedures, and legislation, as well as the ability to offer fee quotations for applications and manage customer complaints effectively. As part of a team of Technical Support Officers, the postholder will provide essential technical and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the Building Control service in line with all relevant regulations. Responsibilities include collecting the Building Safety Levy and managing the daily administrative processes involved in the submission, progression, and enforcement of building control applications in accordance with statutory requirements. The role also supports marketing initiatives aimed at promoting the Building Control service. Working closely with Building Control Managers, the postholder will help ensure all administrative functions comply with current regulatory standards. Additionally, the role involves assisting with auditing Key Performance Indicators and contributing feedback to the Building Safety Regulator to support continuous service improvement.

Experience
- In-depth knowledge of the role and purpose of the Building Control Department
- Experience working in Building Control
- Experience handling all types of Building Control applications
- Understanding of the Building Safety Regulator functions and requirements
- Experience marketing Building Control services and ability to suggest and implement new initiatives within the Technical Support Officer team
- Experience processing payments and invoices, liaising with finance for applications, Building Safety Regulator related work, and reversions
- Technical knowledge of fees and ability to calculate fee quotations for customers
