About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated, ambitious, and politically aware individual to join the Leader’s Office at Merton Council as our Cabinet Manager. Following the re-election of the current administration with an increased majority in May 2026, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the Leader of the Council, Cabinet, and wider Labour Group to deliver on the administration’s ambitions to make Merton a cleaner, greener, safer, and more affordable place to live and work.
Reporting to the Head of Leader’s Office, you will provide direct policy and communications support and advice to the Leader of the Council and manage the cross-cutting support offered to all Cabinet Members. You will line manage the Cabinet Support Officers and ensure Cabinet Members and the administration can effectively deliver their priorities.
You will also take a leadership role within the wider Leader’s Office team and deputise for the Head of Leader’s Office as required. The role involves working in a fast-paced environment on a diverse range of important policy agendas and service issues including social care, education, town centre improvements, financial support for families, and community engagement in this vibrant sporting borough.

Experience
Proven experience in a politically sensitive environment, ideally supporting senior political leaders or elected members. Strong understanding of local government operations and political processes is essential.

Qualifications
