About the Role
Procurement at Merton is evolving and to meet challenging targets, the London Borough of Merton requires skilled, commercially motivated Procurement professionals to help achieve significant savings. This pivotal role drives forward and challenges the Council’s approach to Category Management and its ‘Make or Buy’ agenda. It is integral in assisting delivery of the Council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS), departmental Target Operating Models (TOMs), and its ambition to be London’s Best Council. An ability to scrutinise and deliver value for money at all stages of the Procurement cycle is fundamental to success. Sound and productive relationship management skills, alongside strong technical knowledge, are vital.

Category Advisors utilise their commercial expertise to work across the Council ensuring a high quality approach to procurement. This includes having lead responsibility for a specific aspect of a strategic procurement approach, such as implementing new procurement legislation or delivering Social Value through procurement. Additionally, post holders play a key role in expanding Commercial Services’ effectiveness and influence, ensuring the team delivers a flexible and robust service that reaches throughout the organisation.

The Commercial Services team is split across two Category areas: 'People' and 'Place'. There are currently two vacancies available, recruiting for Category Advisors in both categories.
