This is your opportunity to step into a pivotal role at the heart of Merton’s inclusive education and SEND support system.

As Deputy Principal Speech & Language Therapist, you will lead and develop a dynamic, borough-wide service supporting children and young people across secondary schools, specialist schools (SEMH, MLD, SLD, PMLD), Youth Justice Service, traded/buy-back services, and Virtual School provision.

Working closely with the Principal SLT, you will shape strategy, drive innovation, and ensure high quality, evidence-based practice across all settings. This role offers the chance to make a real difference clinically and systemically.

Key responsibilities include providing highly specialist assessment and intervention including complex case management, leading service development, quality assurance and clinical pathways, mentoring SLTs, building partnerships with education, social care, health and Youth Justice colleagues, delivering specialist training, championing communication needs borough-wide, and contributing to strategic planning and policy development.

You will maintain a small clinical caseload (up to 0.4 FTE) to stay connected with the young people and families served.

Requirements

Experience
At least six years’ specialist experience as a Speech and Language Therapist with strong post graduate CPD. Proven expertise in assessment and intervention for complex speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

Confident and skilled clinician with excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills. Passionate about developing others and driving high quality practice. Able to work flexibly, collaboratively and with emotional resilience.

Qualifications
A recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification with HCPC and RCSLT registration.
