About the Role
Procurement at Merton continues to evolve and to achieve challenging targets, the London Borough of Merton requires skilled, commercially motivated professionals to help achieve significant savings. This role will be pivotal in driving forward and challenging the Council’s approach to Category Management and its Make or Buy agenda.

The Procurement Project Officer will be integral in assisting the Council to deliver its strategic priorities and its Medium-Term Financial Strategy (MTFS), in line with the changes brought about by the new Public Procurement Act.

An ability to explore and deliver value for money at all stages of the procurement cycle is essential for success in this role. Strong and constructive relationship management skills, alongside a good level of technical procurement knowledge, are vital.

Procurement Project Officers will lead, shape, and steer the delivery of individual procurement projects at UK Public Procurement threshold levels and above. Post holders will manage projects from initiation through to contract implementation, taking responsibility for maximising savings and efficiencies from goods and services while ensuring appropriate levels of quality.

Experience
Proven experience in managing procurement projects, preferably within the public sector or a similar environment. Demonstrable ability to deliver value for money and achieve significant savings through effective procurement strategies.

About you
Commercially minded and motivated with strong relationship management skills. Able to work collaboratively across teams and stakeholders to influence and drive procurement initiatives. Comfortable working within a changing legislative environment and adapting to new procurement regulations.

Qualifications
A relevant procurement or commercial qualification is desirable. Knowledge of the Public Procurement Act and UK Public Procurement thresholds is advantageous.
