About the Role
The School Health Service contributes to the London Borough of Newham's key priorities for children, young people, and families in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. As a member of the School Health Team and the wider Child Health Information Service (CHIS) team, you will work closely with Child Health Practitioners to assess health needs and deliver appropriate services to individuals and the wider community within Newham.

Your duties will be delegated by the School Nurse, Child Health Practitioners, Public Health Programme Lead, and other nursery nurses. You will support the delivery of the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) for Reception and Year 6 cohorts, as well as the Hearing and Vision Screening Programme for Reception children across all primary schools and alternative provisions in Newham.

Working as part of the public health nursing team, you will liaise with statutory and voluntary agencies to promote health and wellbeing locally. You will assist the 0-19 public health workforce with health screening, safeguarding support, routine immunisation uptake including school-aged immunisations, and the seasonal Nasal Flu programme.

Key functions include daily liaison with local and national maternity and child health departments to facilitate the exchange of patient identifiable clinical data, supporting clinical service delivery to children and families in Newham. You will also be involved in data collection and input to help identify local health needs across the 0-19 years health services.

The role requires adherence to a smart but casual dress code. The NCMP is a mandated annual programme measuring height and weight of children in Reception and Year 6. Vision screening aims to identify reduced vision and amblyopia in 4 to 5-year-olds for timely intervention. Hearing screening identifies any hearing issues missed or deteriorated since newborn screening.

You will work across four integrated locality hubs providing screening services to all eligible children, supporting the Child Health Practitioner role, and strengthening the delivery of the universal 4, 5, 6 service model as outlined in the Healthy Child Programme and Health for All Children 5th Edition.

Experience
Minimum of 2 years' experience working with children of all ages. Interest in Public Health is essential.
