About the Role
The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London, well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. The borough is well connected by public transport, including bus, tube, DLR, and Elizabeth Line access. The London City Airport, serving major European cities, is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country and was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics, containing most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. The borough features a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East and Stratford Circus Arts Centre, offering excellent entertainment for all the family. You will be working within the Highways and Sustainable Transport service within the Environment and Sustainable Transport directorate, committed to making all our streets safer and healthier so that more people choose to walk and cycle, enjoying healthy and active local journeys with better air quality and fewer cars on local streets.
The post holder will be required to be proficient in public service tendering, contract management using the NEC 4 Suite of contracts, Manual Contracts for Highways Works, highways design, construction, and maintenance. Although Project Managers will be assigned to manage the actual projects and run them on site, the post holder will need to have an overall view of the management of the contracts themselves. The post holder will need to monitor spend, KPIs, and be the lead officer for contract management queries, working closely with the Principal Officer for Planned Maintenance and Urban Design, who manages the delivery of the Capital Programme, and the other principal officers and Senior Project Managers.
Experience
Demonstrable relevant experience and skills in highways design, site supervision, project management of highway, engineering, and traffic management projects, as well as stakeholder management and contract management experience.
About You
You will have the knowledge, experience, and skills to work in a highly pressurized environment, both independently and within a team, to manage the various contracts in operation. It is expected that the post holder be approaching professional member status with an appropriate institution.
Qualifications
The post holder should hold a relevant qualification in the Highways/Construction Management/Civil Engineering field.
