About the Role
As the face of Sainsbury’s at every doorstep, you will deliver groceries in a friendly, thoughtful, and helpful manner, making customers feel valued. You will drive a 3.5 tonne refrigerated van, ensuring deliveries arrive on time and in excellent condition. Your responsibilities include completing vehicle checks to ensure the van is roadworthy, clean, and organised, securing customers’ shopping before departure, and following planned routes safely across various locations and conditions. You will move containers weighing up to 15kg and deliver shopping to a variety of properties, which may involve steps, lifts, or longer walks from the van. Excellent communication with customers is essential, including keeping them informed of any delays, handling queries, and managing order changes. When not delivering, you may assist across the store as needed. This role requires working independently while also being an integral part of the wider store team, especially during busy periods such as the festive season. Both permanent and fixed-term vacancies are available.

Supporting You at Work and Beyond
Sainsbury’s offers a wide range of rewards and competitive benefits including a discount card (10% off after 4 weeks, increasing to 15% on Fridays and Saturdays), holiday entitlement based on hours worked, enhanced family leave, matched pension contributions, life cover, share schemes, retail savings, physical and mental wellbeing support, and financial assistance such as interest-free season ticket loans and pay advances.

Requirements

Experience
No specific prior experience required, but comfortable driving larger vehicles safely in various environments is essential.

About You
Friendly and welcoming with genuine enthusiasm for helping customers and pride in delivering an excellent doorstep experience. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physical, and high-energy environment, including repeatedly moving shopping containers weighing up to 15kg. Able to use initiative, solve problems, and make safe decisions on the road. Enjoys working independently and as part of a team. Flexible and willing to work across the store and take on new challenges. Open to learning, developing, and using route and delivery technology confidently.

Qualifications
Must be over 18 years old and hold a full UK/EU driving licence for at least 12 months with no more than 6 points. Right to Work eligibility in the UK is required. Candidates will complete an online driving risk assessment as part of the interview and a driving assessment upon joining. Sainsbury’s uses in-cab AI cameras to monitor driver behaviour to ensure safety and compliance with road laws.
