About the Role
If you’re interested in making a difference to people’s lives, HM Treasury offers an exciting opportunity to influence decision making that affects the whole of the UK. Working at the heart of government, you will collaborate across departments to promote responsible public spending and drive strong, sustainable economic growth. The work ranges from regulating the financial sector and supporting a greener economy to promoting British trade and supporting jobs and growth nationwide.
The Deputy Director for Assurance will be based within the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA), a joint unit of HM Treasury and the Cabinet Office established to deliver the government’s 10 Year Infrastructure Strategy and reform project delivery across government. This high-profile role involves overseeing the Government Major Projects Portfolio (GMPP), providing in-depth analysis, insight, and advice on system-level risks and opportunities across sectors and departments.
You will lead the assurance and portfolio team responsible for arranging and delivering independent assurance reviews for programmes exceeding £1 billion in value, ensuring these reviews meet the highest standards and provide reliable indicators of project success. Close collaboration with senior leaders and stakeholders will be essential to integrate the new cross-government assurance framework into NISTA’s service offering.
Core responsibilities include leading and developing the team, owning the assurance strategy and processes, enhancing assurance quality, advising on interventions using data-driven insights, managing relationships with key stakeholders, maintaining a pool of accredited assurance reviewers, and leveraging data to drive innovation and performance in government projects.
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape NISTA’s assurance services and contribute to the successful delivery of major government projects aligned with the government’s plan for change and Net Zero ambitions.
