The Growth Strategy Unit (GSU) is a newly established team within the Economic Growth Unit (EGU), responsible for leading HM Treasury’s work on growth in partnership with No 10, including No 10 North. The unit develops the overall approach to boosting growth and living standards through supply side reform, advising senior government figures including the Chancellor, Prime Minister, and Cabinet Secretary on economic performance and strategy.
As Deputy Director and head of the Growth Strategy Unit, you will shape and drive the UK’s growth agenda and economic strategy. You will work closely with No 10, the Cabinet Office, businesses, think tanks, academia, and government departments to deliver ambitious policies that will influence the country’s economic future.
Your responsibilities will include advising Ministers on growth and economic strategy, synthesising work across HM Treasury, building and maintaining key relationships across government, shaping external research and debate on growth, embedding economic analysis in policy-making, leading cross-functional strategic projects, and demonstrating strong leadership to build a diverse and inclusive team.

Experience
- Outstanding people leadership skills with experience setting strategic direction and leading high-performing teams to deliver at pace and inclusively.
- Sound judgement and strong strategic vision with knowledge of Economic Strategy and experience leading in complex policy and political environments.
- Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills with proven ability to gain confidence and trust of senior stakeholders and Ministers.
- Ability to absorb and interrogate data, communicate clearly to support decision-making, and build evidence-led strategies.
