About the Role
Working at HM Treasury puts you at the heart of government, making a difference to the UK economy and people’s lives across the country. This role offers the opportunity to advise Ministers on decisions that directly influence the UK’s prosperity. You will be part of a high-performing, inclusive, and sociable workplace with offices in London and other locations, working seamlessly as one Treasury.
The postholder will lead and coordinate HM Treasury’s input to the independent Pensions Commission, shaping reform of the pensions system, including Automatic Enrolment policy and pensions tax policy. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to influence pensions policy for decades to come, ensuring individuals save enough for retirement while maintaining fiscal sustainability.
Responsibilities include advising Ministers on pensions tax relief thresholds and administration ahead of each Budget, working closely with HMRC, DWP, and other Treasury colleagues. You will also oversee policy and spending related to DWP arm’s length bodies such as The Pensions Regulator, The Pensions Ombudsman, and Nest.
The role involves significant engagement with Ministers and senior officials, presenting ideas clearly and contributing to a positive team dynamic. Flexibility is required to move between policy projects as ministerial priorities evolve.
Experience
No prior policy or pensions experience is required. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and seek candidates who can collaborate effectively, analyse information to draw evidenced conclusions, and position their work in a wider context.
About you
You should be enthusiastic and motivated, able to build good relationships across teams, communicate complex information clearly to senior leaders, and make effective decisions based on complicated information. You will contribute positively to team dynamics and work flexibly to meet changing priorities.
Qualifications
There are no specific qualifications required for this role. A strong ability to analyse, communicate, and collaborate effectively is essential.
