About the Role
Balfour Beatty currently has an opportunity for an Electrical Engineer (Highways) to work on the M25, one of the busiest and most important sections of road in the UK. As part of the Connect Plus Services business based in Leatherhead, you will assist in the efficient service delivery of the M25 DBFO Network by undertaking a wide range of incident response, hazard clearance, network maintenance, and more.

In this role, you will support the delivery of ITS/Technology design activities across the M25 network. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you will assist with the development, review, and coordination of design solutions for various roadside technology assets.

Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the preparation of ITS/Technology designs for assets such as CCTV, signals, VMS, ERT, and MIDAS under senior engineer supervision
- Contributing to the production of drawings, documents, and technical reports
- Supporting design reviews to ensure completeness and compliance with standards
- Participating in optioneering and feasibility activities including data gathering and basic assessments
- Helping compile design briefs, technical inputs, and documentation for design suppliers
- Assisting in monitoring progress against programme and budget, providing updates to senior engineers and project managers
- Supporting liaison with internal teams and gathering information required for design stages
- Helping collate and prepare technical submissions for the Review Process in accordance with the DBFO contract
- Contributing to quality assurance activities ensuring documentation follows CPS standards and procedures
- Participating in site visits, surveys, and inspections to support design development (training provided)
- Assisting in capturing lessons learned and contributing ideas for innovation and continuous improvement
- Ensuring compliance with CDM requirements by supporting senior engineers with Designer’s duties

Requirements

Qualifications
- Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., BEng/BSc/HNC/HND in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, or similar)
- Interest in pursuing professional registration (IET, IHE or similar)

Experience
- Basic understanding or academic exposure to ITS/Technology systems and principles
- Awareness of engineering standards and interest in learning DMRB, MCHW, and related design guidance
- Good IT and Microsoft Office skills
- Experience from placements, secondments, or academic projects related to transport systems or technology design is advantageous
- Knowledge of electrical or technology equipment (CCTV, signals, VMS, etc.) is desirable
- Awareness of the 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations is beneficial
- Understanding of communication networks or cyber security principles is a plus
- Knowledge of CDM and other health and safety legislation
- Holding appropriate CSCS card registration and a current UK driving licence is advantageous
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Project or other planning tools is desirable
