About the Role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Package Manager to join our outstanding Major Projects team to work at our Old Oak Common development in London – the largest construction project in the UK. HS2’s new c. £1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UK’s best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London. Upon completion, the new station will feature six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will provide high-speed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will deliver an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors.
As Package Manager, you will manage the subcontract including Health and Safety, Scope, Programme, Quality, Risk, Cost, and Resources. You will oversee construction/design interface management between interfacing subcontracts such as fit-out, steelwork, roof, façade, and MEPH. Ensuring the quality of work delivered meets required standards and managing the quality process will be key responsibilities. You will support package and activity readiness activities, monitor and resolve blockers, and ensure subcontractor documentation and reporting comply with subcontract terms, project requirements, and safe systems of work.
You will manage a small team of assistant package managers, ranging from apprentices to section engineers, conduct subcontractor and BBVS programme reviews, and lead value engineering, opportunity identification, and progression. Identifying threats and opportunities, proposing and implementing mitigation, and managing risk will be essential to your role.

Experience
- Several years of experience leading construction engineering teams and/or subcontracts in major project/programme environments
- Experience in earthworks, civils, drainage, reinforced concrete, and precast concrete works
- Good understanding of contracts and identifying notifiable events (NEC)
- Strong general civil engineering experience on large infrastructure projects
- Good understanding of consents (NR, TFL or LUL)
- Experience managing site activities and monitoring/reporting on subcontractors’ performance
- Experience working in multidisciplinary interfaces environments
- Ability to report clear and reliable information to clients and senior level management
- Experience in managing others
