About the Role
Barnet Youth Justice Service (YJS) is recruiting two passionate and innovative Project Engage Youth Workers to support young people who have been arrested and detained in Police Custody Suites (Colindale and Wembley). The role focuses on engaging young people at the “teachable and reachable moment” to provide space for reflection and planning positive changes in their lives. Project Engage is a tri-borough initiative involving Barnet, Brent, and Harrow, coordinated with the Metropolitan Police and funded by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) via the Violence Reduction Unit.

As part of Family Services within the Children’s Safeguarding directorate, the Youth Justice Service aims to reduce serious youth violence and provide targeted interventions to divert young people from offending or becoming victims of crime or exploitation.

The Engage Youth Workers will establish trusted relationships with young people, offer voluntary interventions, and manage a caseload that includes seeing young people in custody and the community, completing detailed logs, ensuring referrals and plans are recorded accurately, attending Engage Panels to support case management, and networking with community organizations to support young people and the YJS.

This role requires working collaboratively across Barnet, Brent, Harrow, and with Metropolitan Police staff to deliver effective outreach youth support and contribute to multi-agency practice focused on improving life chances for young people.
