About the Role
As a Governance and Scrutiny Officer, you will be a leading point of contact for Members, officers, and the public on matters relating to the formal decision-making process. You will provide advice and guidance on governance issues including Council, Cabinet committees, quasi-judicial bodies, boards/panels, delegated decision making, and the Constitution across council service areas and key delivery partners. You will proactively engage the organisation on governance matters to enable decision making within a diverse organisational structure. Ensuring decision making is based on sound legal practice and in accordance with the Constitution is a key responsibility. You will also contribute to the delivery of the Governance Service Plan, leading or supporting project work and managing specific tasks as required.

Experience
- Experience and/or understanding of local authorities' decision-making processes and their operating context
- Strong understanding of the local government policy environment and performance frameworks
- Ability to work effectively and establish positive relationships with Members and senior officers, building confidence, credibility, and trust
- Experience managing and facilitating effective Member-Officer relations
- Evidence of participation in relevant professional networks
