We are seeking enthusiastic Engineering Managers to join our expanding Rail Engineering Services team to lead the technical delivery of a diverse portfolio of rail engineering projects across the UK and overseas. In this role you will lead, direct, and coordinate multi-disciplinary technical teams, supporting the resolution of complex technical problems. You will manage client and stakeholder relationships to achieve desired project outcomes and set an example for health, safety and welfare by instilling a strong safety culture within your delivery team. You will lead the development and management of client requirements and assurance outputs such as assumptions and departures, coordinate design activities including integrated design reviews, and promote digitalisation to aid delivery. Working alongside Project and Design Managers, you will ensure the technical delivery of rail projects and provide guidance, support, and mentorship to aspiring engineering managers.

About the Team
You will work on exciting and inspiring projects for a variety of infrastructure owners, national and local governments, public and private sector clients including Network Rail, HS2, regional transport bodies, operators and contractors. The Engineering Management and Project Management Service Line is a team of professionally qualified, talented and diverse individuals delivering multi-disciplinary projects across the full design lifecycle—from early concept stage to detailed design and supporting delivery contractors on site. The team values mentoring and development, sharing technical knowledge and experience to provide clients with technical excellence through project delivery.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven track record of successfully delivering multi-disciplinary projects as an Engineering Manager
- Engineering specialism and experience in railway engineering design
- Strong experience in at least one area of the full project lifecycle from initial feasibility studies to detailed design and implementation
- Strong understanding of CSM, CDM and other health and safety regulations, including application of “safe by design” techniques
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams and teams, balancing priorities and making value and delivery decisions to meet or exceed client expectations
- Technical knowledge to challenge project teams on outputs and deliverables
- Experience in roles with specific engineering responsibilities such as CEM, CRE, DPE or PE
- Chartered or incorporated registration with a relevant professional engineering institution
- Understanding of client engineering assurance processes and railway standards

About You
- Demonstrable multidisciplinary delivery experience with proven leadership skills
- Track record of developing and maintaining client relationships
- Ability to mentor and develop staff
- Strong communicator and collaborator within multi-disciplinary teams

Qualifications
- Chartered or incorporated engineer status with a relevant professional engineering institution is essential
- It is desirable to have experience across the full project lifecycle from feasibility to detailed design and implementation
- Experience of engineering management of consents-led schemes is advantageous
- Previous experience undertaking the CEM role is preferred
- Commitment to health, safety and welfare with a strong safety culture mindset
