About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark rail projects, contributing your expertise to deliver safe and reliable systems. You will provide system safety support and guidance on large, complex projects under the direction of our senior team, and take a leading role on smaller projects with mentorship. Your responsibilities may include planning, supporting, and chairing Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment workshops, preparing System Definitions, Safety Plans, Hazard Records and Safety Justification Reports, and demonstrating the application of the Common Safety Method on Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM-RA) for rail projects involving technical, operational, and organisational change. You will collaborate closely with clients and internal teams to develop designs, technical standards, specifications, and requirements. Additionally, you may act as Project Manager for smaller projects with senior team support. Requirements

Experience
- Relevant post-graduate experience in system safety engineering (rail experience desirable but not essential)
- Knowledge and experience in applying the Common Safety Method on Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM-RA) Regulation on UK rail projects
- Familiarity with Engineering Safety Management (e.g. iESM or Yellow Book)
- Knowledge and background in a mainline or metro railway discipline such as signalling, telecoms, or E&P
- Experience in consultancy environment is advantageous
- Desirable: Knowledge and experience with CENELEC EN 50126/8/9, EN50121 (EMC), cyber security, and experience as an Independent Safety Assessor or with an Assessment Body
- Experience and/or formal qualifications in project and commercial management

Qualifications
- A degree in a technical engineering related discipline or extensive relevant experience
- Corporate membership with an appropriate professional institution (e.g. SaRS, IET, IMechE)
- Professional registration, or working towards registration, as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer
