About the Role
BBC Learning English is the award-winning English language teaching arm of the BBC World Service, creating digital content for English learners on web, app, social media platforms, and podcasts. This role supports the expansion of our English language teaching (ELT) offer to Mandarin-speaking audiences, particularly in China. You will work as part of a team of Mandarin-speaking ELT professionals to originate, create, present, and publish audio, video, text, and image-based content tailored for Chinese English learners. Collaboration with other BBC Learning English teams is essential to ensure high audience engagement and reach. You will participate across various areas of BBC Learning English output as required, contributing to the department’s digital-first strategy.

Your Key Responsibilities
- Originate and adapt English language teaching content for web and social platforms, including image, text, video, audio, and interactive programmes.
- Present and support others in presenting video, audio, and live streaming programmes.
- Write and teach grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and related ELT content in an engaging and accessible way for diverse English proficiency levels.
- Ensure educational and journalistic accuracy of all produced materials.
- Manage all stages of production from idea conception to delivery, including providing guidance and completing administrative tasks.
- Source contributors, interviewees, language learners, and experts as needed.
- Address editorial and educational challenges with innovative strategies.
- Ensure compliance with BBC Editorial guidelines and legal, contractual, and copyright requirements.
- Monitor audience growth and engagement on Learning English platforms and identify opportunities for expansion.
- Direct a Journalism Coordinator in preparing programme materials under your responsibility.

Experience
- Native-level proficiency in Mandarin (simplified) in all forms.
- Excellent working knowledge of English in all forms.
- First-class translation skills from English to Mandarin.
- Recent experience creating or adapting English language teaching materials for Mandarin-speaking audiences across various media platforms, including school and self-study contexts.
- Desirable: Experience creating ELT content for Chinese social media platforms.
- Desirable: Strong technical skills, particularly with Photoshop and Final Cut Pro for image, audio, and video editing.
