About the Role
Barnet Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our Health and Safety Team within Environmental Health & Public Protection. The Environmental Health & Public Protection service delivers a wide range of regulatory services that help create safer, healthier, and more prosperous communities. The Health and Safety Team plays a vital role in protecting workers, residents, and visitors through health and safety inspections and interventions, accident and incident investigations, complaint investigation and business engagement, enforcement and compliance activity, partnership working with key agencies and stakeholders, advice and guidance for businesses, and service improvement initiatives.
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will help safeguard public health and support compliance with health and safety legislation across Barnet's commercial sector. You will undertake inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities, provide advice to businesses, and contribute to delivering a high-performing regulatory service.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake intelligence-led health and safety inspections in accordance with the National Local Authority Enforcement Code
- Investigate workplace accidents, complaints, and serious incidents
- Take proportionate enforcement action where required
- Provide advice and guidance to businesses, duty holders, and stakeholders
- Prepare reports, witness statements, and enforcement documentation
- Maintain accurate records and case management systems
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies

Experience
- Recent experience delivering health and safety enforcement within a local authority or regulatory environment
- Proven ability to manage a varied workload and work both independently and as part of a team

Qualifications
- A recognised Environmental Health qualification or equivalent health and safety qualification
