About the Role
Barnet's Environmental Health & Public Protection Service is expanding to enhance public protection, support responsible businesses, and deliver high-quality regulatory services across one of London's largest and most diverse boroughs. We are building a talent pool of experienced regulatory professionals passionate about public protection, compliance, investigation, and service improvement.
We invite expressions of interest for the following roles within the Commercial Regulatory Service:
- Health & Safety Team Leader
- Senior Health & Safety Officer
- Senior Food Safety Officer
Health & Safety Team Leader
Lead Barnet's Health & Safety Service, combining operational expertise with team management. Oversee inspections, investigations, enforcement activity, and business engagement. Drive service improvement and lead a dedicated team to create safer workplaces, healthier communities, and thriving businesses across the borough.
Senior Health & Safety Officer
Conduct inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities to protect public health and workplace safety. Support businesses in achieving compliance and help deliver high-quality regulatory services that safeguard workers, residents, and visitors.
Senior Food Safety Officer
Carry out food hygiene and food standards inspections, investigate complaints, provide expert advice to businesses, and take proportionate enforcement action to maintain food safety standards across Barnet's diverse food sector.

Experience
We are keen to hear from professionals with experience in Environmental Health, Food Safety, or Health & Safety regulation. Experience in inspections, investigations, enforcement, regulatory compliance, and public protection is essential. Experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership working, report writing, evidence gathering, and decision making is highly valued. Leadership, coaching, and team development experience is required for management roles.
About You
You are passionate about public protection and regulatory compliance, motivated to improve services, and committed to supporting businesses and communities. You have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. You are proactive, professional, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
Most roles require relevant professional qualifications and experience within a local authority or regulatory environment. Specific qualifications related to Environmental Health, Food Safety, or Health & Safety regulation are desirable.
