About the Role
Merton’s Family Wellbeing Service is seeking a passionate Family Wellbeing Practitioner dedicated to improving outcomes for families within the borough. You will work holistically with whole families, focusing on children and young people who are central to our practice. The role requires working within Merton’s Early Help Practice Model, demonstrating high-level skills in Systemic and Relationship Based Practice. Our service values include a strengths-based perspective, empowering families to make and sustain change, and fostering independence to support engagement and progress.

As a Family Wellbeing Practitioner, you will act as the lead professional, managing an intensive caseload of up to 14 families with complex needs in a diverse and vibrant community. Your work will be voluntary and consent-based, involving a multi-agency coordinated response to reduce risk factors that may lead to negative outcomes such as developmental delays, poor school attendance, statutory social care involvement, and other vulnerabilities.

The role involves direct, effective engagement with children, young people (aged 0-25), adults, their families, and key support networks. You will provide advice, guidance, and practical support designed to have a measurable impact over a 3-6 month period, underpinned by evidence-based practice and research.

Supported by a dedicated team and excellent training opportunities, this is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate a genuine passion for whole family working. Permanent posts are available at ME9 or ME11 grades. Applicants for the ME11 grade should ensure they evidence the additional duties outlined in the job specification.

Experience
Experience working with families in a multi-agency setting is desirable. Skilled in Systemic and Relationship Based Practice with a strong understanding of Early Help models and working with complex family needs.

Passionate about improving family outcomes, able to work intensively and collaboratively with families and professionals. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to empower families and promote independence. Comfortable managing a caseload and working within a diverse community.

Qualifications
Relevant professional qualifications or experience in social care, family support, or related fields are preferred. Applicants for the ME11 grade should demonstrate evidence of additional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the job specification.
